Newsbrief: Report Released - Asian Americans and the Mental Health Services Act

September 1, 2005

Asian Community Mental Health Services along with Asian Pacific Psychological Services and Culture to Culture Foundation released a report entitled Asian Americans and Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services: Report and Recommendations for Implementation of the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA).

The MHSA is an opportunity for our community to shape the mental health delivery system at all the points of access: outpatient, crisis and inpatient.  For Asian and Pacific Islanders, the most relevant mental health services are those that integrate cultural, gender-sensitive and age-appropriate context for the community being served.

This report, which required the collaboration and efforts of many individuals and organizations, will give voice to unserved and underserved Asians in Alameda County. We hope that by identifying needs and service disparities, this report will promote research and shape responsive health care policies in both the public and private sectors.
